Mercedes Schlapp, the White House strategy director for communications has a tough task. It's not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to serve as the strategic communication adviser at White House. Schlapp, however, has maintained her focus on her job. She collaborates closely in conjunction with White House political affairs and committees on legislation and policy shops and the overall communications operation in order to coordinate the policy roll-out. Her focus to date has been on topics such as safety in schools, the opioid epidemic, infrastructure, trade as well as other topics. In her current job the director is not working with many journalists. The media spotlight was on her in the wake of being announced as the candidate to succeed Hope Hicks, the communications director. Mercedes Schlapp does not have a simple job of White House strategic communication adviser. It's not an easy task to have Mercedes Schlapp as the White House's strategic communications advisor. She is faced with a myriad of challenges, including being a president who acts as his director of communications. Schlapp is keeping her eyes on the target, and has been coordinating policy implementation with White House staff from the department of legislative and political affairs and policy shop as well as broader communication. So far, her focus has been on matters such as the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure and trade. The current position she holds doesn't require any contact with journalists. However, in March her name was rumored to be the candidate who would succeed Hope Hicks at the Communications Director position. The fight has been bitter. Schlapp's allies fought with Tony Sayegh on the news. Schlapp claimed that, following the time she learned that the Washington Examiner had published an article that had negative reviews of Sayegh's character, she called Sayegh in a private chat.
